Take Sarafem exactly as directed by your doctor. Sarafem can be taken with or without food. To help you remember to take Sarafem, it may be best to take it at about the same time each day.
Symptoms may start to improve within 1 to 2 weeks of beginning treatment. However, it may take 4 weeks or longer to feel the full benefits of the treatment. Be sure to discuss the effect of Sarafem with a doctor throughout this time.
Experts recommend that treatment with an antidepressant last for 6 to 12 months. This can help ensure that depression won't reoccur. A doctor will monitor progress and decide the length of Sarafem treatment.
Missed Doses
If taking Sarafem on a daily basis and a dose is missed by only a few hours, take it when remembered. Don't double up on doses the next day, however, if a dose is missed by a whole day. Do not take more than the daily amount of Sarafem that has been prescribed.
What If I Take Too Much Sarafem?
Overdosage is possible. If too much Sarafem is taken it can be harmful, even deadly, if the dose is large enough. If this occurs and the following symptoms are noticed, consult with a doctor or seek emergency help right away:
- seizures
- severe drowsiness
- nausea and vomiting
- rapid heartbeat
