Sarafem Drug Interactions
Always be sure to tell a doctor or pharmacist about all of the medications currently being taken, even over-the-counter and natural/vitamin products. Medications can sometimes work against each other.
If currently taking or have taken a monoamine oxidase inhibitor (MAOI) medication for depression within the last 14 days, do not take Sarafem without first checking with a doctor. It may not be safe. When discontinuing taking Sarafem, do not start taking an MAOI for at least 5 weeks. Also, do not mix Mellaril, another antidepressant, with Sarafem and do not start taking Mellaril for at least 5 weeks after stopping treatment with Sarafem.
It is best to avoid drinking alcohol while being treated with Sarafem.
